What's the point of freedom?

Once we become free, we need to be filled! Wait what? Isn't that the point of freedom, to be free, healed, and whole and live a happy life? Yes it is but our soul cannot remain empty. It is like an organism that is in need of being fed in order to live. Something else must take place of the burden that had been in our soul prior to receiving freedom. The place of freedom must be replaced with the purpose God predestined for us.

Once Jesus sets us free, we are truly free! The next step is to make changes to the way we used to live. We can start by filling our inner room (soul) with godly things.

“So if the Son makes you free, then you are unquestionably free. I know that you are Abraham’s descendants; yet you plan to kill Me, because My word has no place [to grow] in you [and it makes no change in your heart].” JOHN 8:36-37 AMP

Since God predestined us with a purpose, it means three things:

  • ·      We cannot be living a life without a purpose.
  • ·      We cannot be happy, fulfilled or joyful when we are living out the wrong purpose for our lives.
  • ·      We need change in our lives from the life we had prior to being free.

When God started working with me; healing my heart and giving me freedom, I remember praying and asking God why I was still not experiencing the fullness of Him and why I didn't have joy. I felt like there was a barrier or a piece of the puzzle that was still missing, I didn't understand what it was. So I asked God what was wrong with me and why I was still so unhappy? I started feeling guilty for not having joy since I was able to identify all the blessings that God had blessed me with. I had just gotten my dream car, I was living in a beautiful home, I had beautiful kids and my family was healthy. What else would a person need right?

That's when I heard the Lord speak to my heart for the first time. He answered my question. He said "you don't have me". I felt so convicted. At that moment I realized that He was not my priority and that all the other things still were. I began to weep and I repented from my selfishness andthat's when I began to understand that although I had been set free, I needed to change my lifestyle of finding satisfaction in earthy things (which never satisfied me anyways) to putting God first and filling my life with what God wanted me to do. My entire perspective changed. I began to find area where I could serve God rather than satify my selfish desires that’s when I truly began to live a life of freedom. You see, I believe that I was a slave to materialism and a slave to my selfish desires (even though they don’t seem bad). Today, I continue to live a life of freedom. I have so much joy in everything that I do. I even get excited about putting away groceries that I purchase for my family because I feel so blessed to serve them food and have the ability to feed them.

When we become free, we need to fill that place with Gods word. This will lead us to know God better and understand the purpose for our lives. After hearing from God, I Knew that I needed to find out who God is and what it really meant to "have God" in my daily life. Do you need God in your life? What areas do you still find discontentment? I promise you, God wants you to have joy in everything that you do. Whether its providing for your family or taking your Algebra exam, God cares about your life even more than you do because the cross was done with you in mind 2,000 years ago.

Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. Jeremiah 33:3

Is there something you need prayer for? Do you have struggles or questions that you can’t answer? God is ready to answer you. Call out to Him and He will answer.
