It was never about me

When I first thought about freedom, I thought about myself and how my life has changed after Jesus set me free <see full story>. In this current season, the Lord has been revealing to me that it was never just about me. So who and what is freedom all about?

After being deployed into the battlefield, soldiers fought for the rights of others. They didn’t only think of themselves. I think that if that was the case, they would have just risked their own lives in vain for themselves and no change would have come about since they would be dead and not able to speak up for what they were fighting for. The soldiers fought for the freedom of their loved ones and for future generations. They fought for freedom of expression and for peace. What a blessed country we live in! Our children don’t know what war is. They don’t have to arm themselves with weapons before going to school nor do they have to worry about obtaining basic needs like food and shelter for their families. I hope and pray that our children would never have to live through any of it.

If we are truly the hands and feet of Christ, then what have we done to set the captives free? What have we done to help the future generations? I want to do more! I want to help others find freedom in Jesus and in this life. When the soldiers fought, they were willing to die for the cause. Are we? Am I willing to die for this cause? I don’t always feel like I want to, that’s for sure. Jesus is the one who can set the captives free and because we are His hands and feet, He can work through us to help others receive the freedom Jesus was sent to give to ALL PEOPLE, though the Holy Sprit that is in us.

1.Proclaim good news to the poor

2.Proclaim freedom for the prisoners

3.Recovery of sight for the blind

4.Set the oppressed free

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free. Luke 4:18

Maybe you are like me and thought about freedom as mostly about myself. I believe that Jesus wants His church back. I believe that we can make a difference. I believe that when we stand together against the works of darkness, proclaiming the freedom of Jesus Christ, the captives will be set free. What else is better then that? I think it’s a privilege and honor to be employed by God Himself to finish the work Jesus started. I think that is true honor.
